Objective 43 and 44 are positive approaches but are open for interpretation. What is deemed 'improvement' of the market's character depends on who you ask. This should be from a range of people who actively and regularly use the market, rather than external bodies or those with an interest in developing properties near to the market. All the other objectives here while sounding positive are purely superficial that are planned without proper conversation with market traders and shoppers. It is concerning that there is not more substantial and long term vision for investment in the market. Why does all signage need to be new and homogenous. This strips away the character of the market as well as disempowering individuals and their diversity. There are many more creative and inclusive ways to invest in and improve the market for the future: What about cooperative childcare for market traders? Employing local signwriters?

Please tell us why.

The proposals are mainly superficial and lack an understanding of the complex nature and function of the market for the community.

The current plans will insert 'improvements' into the organic fabric of Ridley Road, which will be alien to the special environment that the market it. Instead of gazebos, trees and card readers, the traders say they need: More toilets, at the other end of the market Urgent gutter repair, to get rid of the pungent smell Parking space for sellers and buyers Roof repair for the shops on the south side I am very worried that the disappearance of the Ridley Road Shopping Village and containers on St. Marks Rise will transform and divide the neighbourhood. It will displays a sharp contrast between newly arriving high-earning professionals and vastly deprived council estates this might lead to communal upset and segregation. I experience the climate on the market as an intact multicultural melting pot, and as the very reason why people come and move to this part of town. Please help protecting the integrity and beauty of Dalston and its landmarks, Ridley Road Market and Gillet Sq with its social initiatives. I am also very concerned with keeping the spirit and the creativity of Ridley Road intact when improving the visual appearance of the market with the Good Growths Fund this autumn.  My is proposition to not have the new signage printed as proposed. Instead it would be best to have the Ridley Road shop signs hand-painted by the local sign painter artist Joe. He has painted about 50% of Ridley Road's shop front signage and his work is unique and recognisably joyful.   Inviting him would be important, because the anonymous, plastic signage as issued with the last Good Growths Fund alter and erode the original and beautiful visual appearance of the local market. Joe's telephone number is: ***We've removed personal information such as name, phone, email to protect user identity*** Please ensure to pay Joe a decent wages that matches Hackney Council rates. If you cannot get hold of Joe, please contact me by the supplied email and I will try to introduction for you!

Ridelt Road is a wonderful asset to Dalston and I use it regularly. It would be very sad if it lost its character by overdevelopment, but it does need to feel safer if there are to be seating areas (regular on foot police patrol at peak times would help). Improved loos are certainly needed, both for the traders and the public - with attendants to ensure they are kept clean and not used for the wrong purposes. Longer market hours would be useful at weekends, but traders already have a long day (allowing for time to set up their stalls).

Please tell us why.

Don't lose the individualty of the different stalls - we don't want all to look the same.
