• Objective 9: Shift towards a pedestrian priority in areas around Ridley Road, Kingsland High Street and Dalston Lane.

• Objective 10: Encourage the use of an alternative and calmer route parallel to Kingsland High Street, especially for pedestrians and cyclists, through the redevelopment of Kingsland Shopping Centre, improved public realm, lighting and increased wayfinding signage on existing routes.

• Objective 13: Improve cycle links, particularly east-west routes.

• Objective 14: Reduce the impact of motor traffic on air quality through the promotion of active and sustainable modes of transport.

• Objective 18: Improve arrival points at both Dalston Kingsland and Dalston Junction overground stations.

It's a good start but there's a lot of rather vague text (unless I've missed something in the main document). Lanes and yards sound attractive but they have to be safe - not somewhere which will become used for criminal purposes (which happened in Ashwin Street for a while).

In many ways it is a bit late to tackle some of these problems - they should have been foreseen at planning stage before stations and other new buildings (eg the block on Kingsland Road which backs onto Ashwin Street) were redeveloped. PIck-ups and drop-offs at the stations are impossible but often necessary, and could at least be facilitated in the bus park to the rear of Dalston Junction station. Lift access from Daltson Square to station level for wheel chairs/people with luggage is also needed for people approaching from the south. Widening pavements is all very well but will make the roads more dangerous and busses are still needed to allow shoppers to reach shops and Ridley Road. As for reducing traffic, it is now all funnelled into Dalston Lane/Balls Pond Road and Kingsland Road, increasing the fumes and safety problems precisely in the area which has the highest number of pedestrians - LTNs which contribute to this need rethinking! I'm a cyclist and use the racks near the market - they may block the path a bit, but are much safer than blocks of racks (eg Dalston Square) where bikes (or parts of them) are regularly stolen - areas like this need someone to watch them - CCTV is little deterrent to bike thieves. Deliveries to stores and the market are essential - but why must we have so many Deliveroo etc bikes in Kingsland Road and drivers blocking the pavement going in and out to collect orders ? I understand there will be logistics to consider and rents to pay, but ideally there should be kitchens specifically for takeaway bike delivery away from the high street with safe parking, keeping the town centre venues for personal customers and diners only - less stress and fewer fumes for all!

• Objective 17: Rationalise parking and identify suitable locations for delivery vehicles and servicing arrangements for shops and businesses.

Within the Kingsland site, I would like to see the route of “Important Local View 6: View North along Ramsgate Street, towards St Marks Church” safeguarded for a road-width active travel corridor. The Dalston Plan mentions the possibility of a new bridge across the railway, connecting Ramsgate street to Ridley Road and St Marks Rise, and I think this would be a great idea. Connecting it all together, there is surely ample scope for an excellent pedestrian- and cycle-only through-route connecting Shacklewell Lane - St Marks Rise - Ramsgate St - Laurel St - Buttermere - etc! Additionally, I would like to see a commitment for the Kingsland site to be a mostly no-car zone, with no through-routes, and parking provision set at an absolute minimum. I think it is also an ideal spot for a “last mile deliveries” hub for the whole of Dalston, that would begin to build out an e-cargo-bike delivery infrastructure for the area (see scheme in the City: https://news.cityoflondon.gov.uk/city-of-london-corporation-teams-up-with-amazon-to-cut-delivery-vehicles-and-improve-air-quality/).

Objective 15 Reduction of goods vehicles must also include Graham Rd traffic which impacts ultimately on congestion through Dalston junction especially since the closing off of the already quieter light traffic off roads with the already congested unbearable burden of Graham Rd traffic which is mostly just through traffic and not related to Hackney/ Dalsto n related This also is causing noticeable increase in exhaust fumes and has created a pollution sandwhich for residents with fumes entering into the living spaces of local residents and will also impact on Dalston air quality much more MUST be done to limit unnecessary through traffic to make life bearable re noise and pollution, there are also too many buses and they should not sit and make up time at bus stops outside residences. Traffic is a nightmare that must be addressed.

Objective 13 In the proposal for designated cycling tracks on both side of Kingsland road. The road is not wide enough for this and it would create motor vehicle congestion.
