Objective 1 and 5 sound very positive as Dalston in general lacks trees and green spaces. However Objective 3 seems to be an excuse to allow development in the area which should be questioned, even if it also allows new green space, this may not be enough to counter negative impacts of new developments.

I am a supporter of the Eastern Curve Garden and it would be an enormous loss to the community if it were to be closed and redeveloped. The best things, including the Curve garden and the 'greening' of Ashwin Street, come from individual initiative and community enterprise - over-designed and/or officially controlled spaces tend to fail as they are too open and/or lacking in character. The main thing is for people to feel safe and able to relax - the Curve does that as it is enclosed - Dalston and Gillet Squares do not as they are thoroughfares with a complex mix of users, and this should be taken into consideration for any new developments (eg Dalston Cross redevelopment). Open spaces should encourage volunteers to work in them who do not have gardens of their own. More cafes in the gardens (and public loos) would help attract visitors and provide staff to maintain safe environments for all.

Please tell us why.

I commented on this but was unable to edit my reply. As an additional thought - please take traffic in areas adjacent to new green spaces into consideration - Ashwin Street would be lovely if it could all be planted - the current use of the space as parking for delivery bikes is horrible and dangerous given the number of people who use that route.

All laudable but it would be good to push harder for more than what might risk seeming to be a few token trees. Removing car-parking space might help. Gillett Square could benefit from many more. This is not easy and may be too costly a burden until pollution and overheating are taken more seriously in budgets. Underground services are a problem for tree pits almost everywhere so this would mean high-maintenance raised planters and, as we see elsewhere in Hackney, they are not maintained.

Please tell us why.

Going in the right direction, and one always wants touch further.

The council betrayed nature and the community when you colluded with developers and allowed the destruction of the precious and irreplaceable Happy Man Tree in Woodbury Downs last year. You have lost my trust that you'll advocate for nature and stand up to developers, so I'm skeptical about Objective 8. The community desperately wanted that tree preserved and you sacrificed it, unnecessarily. This objective needs to indicate REAL will to defend our valuable nature, even when developers are offering seductive money.

Please tell us why.

As above, the council lost my trust as guardians of nature . Also, the situation with the waterways in Hackney is dire. I know that there's only canals around Dalston, but please, please invest and commit to cleaning our waterways properly. The water in the Lea is horrific.
